No one wants to experience the issues that come with tooth decay, gum disease, cavities, or a misaligned bite. Well, should you choose to leave your crowded teeth untreated, you could be facing all of these and more.
When teeth are sitting too close to each other, this causes an issue when trying to properly brush and floss your teeth. As a result, bacteria and food particles are left trapped and unable to be removed. This can cause decay and gum disease to develop over time. Without treatment, you could be faced with more extensive and expensive dental treatments to address certain issues (i.e. dental crown or filling for cavities, periodontal therapy for gum disease).
Invisalign uses clear plastic trays to gently shift and move teeth, giving your smile the space it needs to function without incurring additional problems. During your initial consultation with Dr. Asay, he will examine your smile and take impressions to ensure your aligners are created in a way that makes them comfortable for you to wear.
The impressions are sent off to a dental lab where technicians custom-made your trays. Once they are ready and sent to our office, you’ll pick them up and receive additional instruction on how long to wear them. Typically, you will need to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours each day for two weeks at a time. Each time you switch out your trays for the next set in the series, they will begin to shift your teeth, creating necessary space and moving your smile into proper alignment. With each new set, you will be one step closer to a healthier, more beautiful smile.
During your treatment, you will be expected to keep your scheduled appointments with your cosmetic dentist in Round Rock to ensure everything is moving along smoothly. Once you are finished with Invisalign, it will be important for you to wear a retainer to keep your teeth from shifting back into their original position.
Depending on the severity of your case, you can expect to be finished with Invisalign in 12-18 months.
