Have you ever experienced a dental emergency? More than likely you were encountering a toothache, broken tooth, or even a knocked-out tooth. As uncomfortable as the whole experience was, these emergencies are fairly common for your dentist to see. However, occasionally patients come in with some pretty bizarre emergencies that you don’t see all that often. A dentist in Round Rock shares some of the craziest ones of all time!

Tomato Plant

A patient rushed to his emergency dentist because he was experiencing a serious toothache and quite a lot of discomfort. The dentist immediately ordered for a root canal and began the procedure. However, it didn’t take long for the dentist to notice some tiny plants growing out of the cavity. After discussing the findings with the patient, it was determined that these little plants were sprouting from tomato seeds lodged in the gums.

Self-Repaired Restorations

Most people know that you should never try to fix your restorations on your own. However, not everyone is great at following that simple instruction. Once a patient came into the office after she tried to use superglue to secure her crown back onto her tooth. Ultimately, she ended up having the wrong teeth stuck together and superglue was all over the roof of her mouth and throat.

Calculus Bridge

Most dentists have seen some pretty severe dental problems, but this one might take the cake. When teeth are neglected, plaque and tartar builds can become pretty serious. A calculus bridge can even develop as a result. A patient had this issue once and decided that it was time to remove it. He began brushing vigorously as an attempt to remove it. However, this bridge was actually the only thing keeping the teeth in place. Most of his teeth fell out in just a few minutes.

Maggot-Mouth

The parents of a little boy rushed him to the dental office after he was rubbing his swollen mouth. He was excited to be at the dentist because he has never been before. This was apparent when the dentist looked into the boy’s mouth and found a bunch of maggots hiding in his swollen gums.

DIY Palate Repair

What would you do if you discovered a hole in your palate? Most people would say go to the dentist or a doctor. However, one man believed that he could easily solve the issue himself. He simply stuffed wads of tissues inside of it and changed them out about once a week. In the end, he developed one of the worst mouth infections in history.

A Forgotten Emergency

Roots canals are one of the most common dental procedures. A British man required one and headed to the dental office to have it performed. However, ever since the procedure, he has had terrible problems with his memory. In fact, he hasn’t been able to hold memories for more than 90 minutes since his procedure in 2005. No one knows how this could have occurred.

As you already guessed, most of these emergencies could have been resolved early on with proper oral hygiene or a visit to the dentist. By having problems treated early on, you can avoid an emergency in Round Rock in the future.
